Hi Joy,

If your ESR has dropped to 5 it sounds like something is working!! Hope it stays low for you. The lowest mine has ever been is 32.

Take care,

Kathleen x

That's good news if your ESR has dropped to 5. I know someone whose ESR has been 1 for ages.

Hi Joy, wondered where you were! I am pleased to hear that your ESR has dropped. Your meds must be working.

Thanks everyone. It is the first time ever I have had a ESR that low. I wonder what todays bloods will say, I have an appt to see may consultant in four weeks so I will ring for the results next week. This will be the first time I have seen him from June 2009 so I guess something must be working - it must be the combination of Enbrel, Imuran & HCQ!BigGrin

Hi Joy

This is my first post on this forum - so hope I'm doing it right!

I was originally advised by my specialist nurse that anything less than a count of 20 on the ESR scale was OK. Mine ranged between 5 and 20 when I was on a 20mg Methotrexate dose but it has come down to almost a constant 4 since the dose was increased to 25mg a year ago.

So I guess your medication must be working too.

Take care.

Jeff

Yes Jeff you are doing it right. I guess I was a bit shocked the lowest it has been before was 19 and that was a year ago, since then it has ranged between 21-32. Fingers crossed it stay this low.

Hi Joy! Have a look at your CRP result, that is supposed to be a better inflammation marker than the Esr, as it gives you the result on the day it is taken. I used to have results of 20-35 for years and years, but I have had a bad flare for the last 5 weeks and my results are over a hundred. It is rather scary. I am hoping to go on Humira in a month time.
How`s your great dane? My son lost his 4 weeks ago. He was only 9 years old. He was such a lovely dog, adored by everybody. Great danes are enormous, but they are such softies. They have already bought another one. Theirs are always dark grey.

hi

you can get a rogue result- I have had one or 2 in the past.

I have had an esr of 2 once! ha!

sadly, it has never been a true result and the next one is its usual larger self (like the rest of me really!)

I think mine may be a rouge one this time. I only get CRP done at hospital. The last one was done in April and it was 3.8.

Merete, so sorry to hear your son has lost his gentle giant, I lost mine last September at nearly 7. Haven't got another one as yet but we will, we have a Choc Lab who is 16 months. Unfortunately danes are not long livers - the larger the dog the shorter the life. I know someone wh lost one at 14 months recently. If you are on facebook please look me up and post some pics of your sons new pup I would love to see it.

Hi Joy

ESR results can vary considerably even from one day to the next so it's worth bearing in mind to treat results with caution (don't jump for joy too soon!) and wait until you have two or three before cracking open the bubbly! As Jenni says rogue results do happen occasionally, I too have had my share, BUT if you are feeling well and don't have reason to think it may be wrong then it probably is good news!

It's quite an individual thing but the generally accepted tolerance (according to my hospital) for a 'normal' ESR result is between 1-7 mm/hr. However, mine is considered to be good at around 16mm/hr. It's pretty high at the moment, 43, due to a recent flare but for others that might represent a good result. It's a case of finding what is 'the norm' for you. We are all so different!

Good luck for continuing promising results ThumpUp

Hi Everyone

I just got my last ESR result since getting the ESR 5, the 5 must have been a rogue result mu latest is 27, which is more like the norm for me.

It was good while it lastedRollEyes

Thanks lyn for the advice about results. My last crp had dropped to 5 and I am feeling better- but I need to be cautious.
Joy- hopefuly things are improving for you and it's not a rouge score.
